As the year 2009 was about to end, she started to act up. We decided to drive south from Manila to the province of Bicol, where Mount Mayon resides, to be able to capture the anger of the beautiful Mayon.

Photograph by Jeric Mariano

Mayon Volcano Location map

zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-1728214824690750722012-02-13T02:15:00.000-08:002012-03-08T07:58:06.636-08:00Uppercase #11 Carving A Niche
The fine folks at Uppercase published an article about my work in Uppercase 11 and they chose my work for the cover! There were belts of pure gold, gold masks, gold daggers, gold ornaments, bowls, bracelets, rings, pectorals, earrings, and a pure gold rope that turned out to be a sacred thread and weighs 400 kilos, so intricately designed that one could just stare at it in wonder. The swirling lines and the asymmetric form suggest raging flames surrounding a bird's head with a disk at the tip of its long beak. In Indonesia, the garuda or sun-bird was the god Vishnu's vehicle. In old Philippine languages, the sun was also called hari, or king. The symbolism here, then, is that the Butuan kings were vehicles of the divine.

Facial Covers

Scribed swirls and waves on headbands and facial covers from Butuan inspired by waves or the niaga, the snake or dragon motif, which symbolized the sea, which the ancient Filipinos mastered. The most famous is the finding of Mr. Rogelio Rojas, a former Filipino soldier who had worked as a locksmith before allegedly discovering in a cave north of Manila a hidden chamber full of gold bars and a giant golden Buddha statue.

Lots of people hunting the Yamashita treasure anywhere in the Philippines. Some found the gold, and many of them are not lucky.

In 1981, Mr. Berto Morales, a farmer working as a bulldozer operator in an irrigation project in Surigao struck gold. He discovered a treasure trove of gold ornaments while bringing down a hill to collect filling materials.

According to the Probe documentary film, the treasures were discovered in an excavation site in Surigao. There were belts of pure gold, gold masks, gold daggers, gold ornaments, bowls, bracelets, rings, pectorals, earrings, and a pure gold rope that turned out to be a sacred thread or "sablay" and weighs 400 kilos, so intricately designed that one could just stare at it in wonder. The man who allegedly found these valuable pieces of treasure sold some of them and left most of the treasure to a priest in their parish. Eventually, these gold pieces found their way to the Ayala Museum and the Central Bank of the Philippines.

Gintong Pamana Video Made by Probe Team

After Probe's documentary, I made it a point to search more about the gold of our ancestors. What I found is something important to me since I never learned this in school. We were taught that the Spaniards came here for the spices. Maybe it is partly true but there is more to spices. I actually found a blog that proposes that the Philippines is actually a gold-rich land. In some of the accounts made by the colonizers, they described our ancestors as adorned with gold from head to toe. "Gold as big as eggs" could be found just "lying around." The king had gold in his teeth and ate in golden plates. Even his abode has pure gold as part of the structure. Wow!zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-39289754689900905842012-01-11T14:48:00.000-08:002012-03-07T08:55:06.207-08:00The Splash Island In Laguna PhilippinesTime flies really fast. I was there in Splash Island four years ago when im still single and love the place very much. Yesterday is different. Im taking my two-year old son to this wonderful waterworld. Children naturally love playing in water and I thought my son would enjoy this oasis, which is a few kilometers away from the concrete Metro Manila jungle. When it comes to water fun, I must say the Splash Island is one of the best in the Philippines today.

Splash Island Intrance

Anyway, should you intend to visit Splash Island, I suggest you immediately look for a table, hut or place where you could place your things. That’s necessary if you have a few bags with you, but you could always use the locker in case you have not much stuff with you. You can’t bring in water and food, so save yourself the hassle of bringing baon. When you’re ready to go enjoy, change into your swimming gear and take a shower at the Shower Room.

Agos Grandes at Splash Island

Here are some of the stops you may find interesting: Magellan’s Drop (mat-race ride; downhill slide with you on your belly), Rio Montanosa (also called family raft, the starting point is higher than the Magellan’s Drop, with bigger rafts enough to accommodate the entire family). If you want to warm up your butt and slide, take the Dos Supremos and the King Pilipit (both with no mat or rubber — just you and the slide). If you want to slide but prefer a rubber raft between the surface and your behind, take the Big Bam Boo and the Twisted Palms. If you just want to sit around and imagine that you’re at the beach, try the Agos Grandes, a swimming pool with waves.

Splash Island is not entirely for the teens and adults. Children could also run around and enjoy at the Water Wahoo, although it’s not unusual to see adults also enjoying the place. At the back of Water Wahoo are water slides for children (Twin Coco Knot and Curl-of-the-Orient). It is made of loose volcanic debris from the eruption, so it may not stick around long.

According to news reports, fishermen witnessed lava fountains reaching up to 90 feet (30 meters) tall on Dec. 19, which is probably the day the eruption began, said Erik Klemetti, a volcanologist at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

Ash plumes were seen emanating from the spot Dec. 20 and Dec. 22 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. The Ozone Monitoring Instrument on NASA's Aura satellite detected elevated levels of sulfur dioxide, further indicating an eruption. By Dec. 23, what looked like a new island had appeared in the Red Sea off the west coast of Yemen.

"I am surprised about how quickly the island has grown," Klemetti, who writes Wired's Eruptions Blog, told OurAmazingPlanet.

The volcanic activity occurred along the Zubair Group, a collection of small islands that run in a roughly northwest-southeast line. The islands rise from a shield volcano (a kind of volcano built from fluid lava flows) and poke above the sea surface.

Scientists will keep a close eye on the new island to see if it has staying power.

"Many times the islands are ephemeral as they are usually made of loose volcanic debris, so they get destroyed by wave action quite quickly," Klemetti said. But the volcanic activity could outpace the erosion due to the wave action.

Newly emerging islands aren't unheard of. Other newly emerged islands include Surtsey off of Iceland, Anak Krakatau in the caldera of Krakatoa in Indonesia, and Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha`apai in Tonga in the South Pacific.

This story was provided by OurAmazingPlanet, a sister site to SPACE.com. "This was, by far, the most difficult frozen waterfall I had ever climbed—or plan to." But for Gadd, the opportunity to explore the caves behind frozen waterfalls makes the risk worth it. It took a few hours to build up the jump, consider all the safety precautions, and set up flashes. Because it was so dark, the car was actually parked, so Kimbrough could have a sense of where he was. "When I dropped in I could barely see the in-run as the light faded," recalls Kimbrough, "but I was confident and it felt great to 360 through light snowflakes and ride out clean."zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-42044882729092279742011-09-05T05:59:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.059-08:00Here's my the first one tattooand across the chest.acroos the chest tattoostattoos across the chestacroos the chest tattoosNew Tattoo Ideas and Designstattoo ideas for menNotice the tattoos (if theymotor tattoosdesigning your tattoo sleevedesigning tattoo sleeveHere's my the first one tattootattoo quotetattoo sayings across chestacroos the chest tattoosdragon tattoo ideas for mentattoo ideas for mentattoos across the zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-7886149375926650882011-09-04T23:42:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.060-08:00Set of chinese tattoo symbols,biker tattoo designs,bikertattoo designs for guysSet of chinese tattoo symbols,tattoo symbols15 Cool Arm Tattoos Designstattoo designs for guysCeltic Tattoo Designstattoo symbolsname tattoo ideas for mentattoo designs for guyscool tattoo designs for guystattoo designs for guystattoo designs for men startattoo designs for guysFeminine Tattoosgirl word tattoosgirl word tattoosgirl word tattoosAsianzero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-4515905632399927432011-09-04T18:46:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.060-08:00cat from la ink tattoos on herl a ink tattoosla ink tattoo designsl a ink tattoosla ink tattoo designsrib text tattoostattoo ribs textBird Tattooswallow tattoo flashtattoo names name in chinesetattoos namestattoos names in chinesetattoos namescat from la ink tattoos on herla ink tattoo designsrib text tattoostattoo ribs textSwallow Tattoosswallow tattoo flashDevil Tattoos Designs, Devilla ink tattoo designsswallow tattoo zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-65038576731591754152011-09-04T13:54:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.060-08:00angel wing tattoos with namestattoos raises his handsfotos de tattoos com o nome kevintattoo tekst bekende mensentattoo tekst bekende menseninside arm tattoostattoo on inside armGraffiti tree wall glasssmall graffiti tattoosmall text tattoosmall writing tattootattoo inside armfotos de tattoos com o nome kevintattoo on inside armtattoo on inside armtattoo tekst bekende mensentattoo tekst bekende menseninside arm tattoostattoozero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-11139844169014890012011-09-04T10:07:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.060-08:00Traditional Tattoo Designs SEESticker Stencil Victoriansticker stencil tattooStar Tattoostar tattoo designs for womenfor Monkey Tattoo Stencilsmonkeys tattoo designmonkey tattoo designsmonkeys tattoo designElegant Women Tiger Tattooname tattoonew school tattoo machinenew school tattoo machineTraditional Tattoo Designs SEEgun tattoo designs for mengun tribal tattoo designsgun tattoo designs for menStar Tattoo Designs: Body zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-9538841908568021852011-09-04T06:30:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.060-08:00Welcome To Tattoo Ideas Designrib tattoo designs for menrib tattoo designs for menchinese tattoos name designchina tattoosrib tattoo designs for menrib tattoo designs for mentattoos chinachina tattoosDragon Tattoo Designstattoo ideastattoo ideastattoo ideasrib tattoo designs for menrib tattoo designs for mentattoos symbols chinachina tattoosrib tattoo designs for menrib tattoo designs for menTattoo Ideas by Tagtattoo zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-32352761276497041312011-09-04T04:28:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.060-08:00hibiscus flower tattoo designvine tattoos designs,king tattoo designsFind a Great Tattoo Ideastattoo phrases ideasThey make a tattoo tomake tattoosayings in tattoostattoo phrases ideasthe tattoos representingtattoo of names in scriptQuote N Sayings Tattootattoo quotetattoo rmeltattoo rmelEnamel Hibiscus Flowerhibiscus flower tattoosStar Tattoo Designsstar tattoo designstattoo of names in scripttattoo of names in zero77http://www.blogger.com/profile/16206145820238152536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5273634083115025935.post-16169655327515330722011-09-04T00:22:00.000-07:002012-03-10T16:08:26.061-08:00Find Arabic Tattoos at BordersIn NYC;
